Can Drinking Tea Make You Look Better?

Can drinking tea make you look better? As a matter of fact, it can. It depends on what kind of tea you are drinking though because different types have different benefits. I am a hard core tea lover so the fact that my beverage of choice turns out to be healthy and helps you look good is a big time bonus.

Here are the 5 main teas I drink, and why.

Green tea. I drink Green Teas because I love the taste and because of the health benefits. With only about  only 5-10% the caffeine in coffee per cup.  It has loads of  healthy antioxidants.green tea can help maintain cholesterol levels (if they are already in a normal range) and can help you to maintain a healthy blood sugar level, green teas even help your skin and teeth! I prefer decaf  Lemongrass Green Tea, I have at least one cup every day.

White tea. This is the purest and the  least processed of all teas.  White tea is made from immature tea leaves, that are picked  only shortly before the buds have fully opened. It has very little caffeine and is typically a light color with a very delicate  flavor. White teas also contain many healthy antioxidants andis said to be the best tea  for  your skin and complexion. I have read that  white tea has the most potent anticancer properties, due to higher amounts of polyphenols, compared to more the processed teas.  I like the Lavender White Teas. I drink white tea about 4 to 5 times per week. I don’t like it iced, it’s too subtle to drink cold.

Red/Rooibos tea. Made from a South African red bush. This tea is a good source of vitamins and minerals and it also contains antioxidants. Red tea is naturally caffeine free, and is said to  help promote digestion, encourage healthy skin, teeth and bones and support your immune system, Red teas are good hot or iced, with a strong flavor. I like Lemon Lime Rooibos, iced. I drink at least 5 glasses a week from spring through the fall. I drink plain Red, hot 4 or 5 times a week in cooler weather.

Oolong tea.
Known as a Chinese tea, you probably had some the last time you went out for beef and broccoli dish at your faveorite Chinese restaurant . It can vary anywhere  in between black and green in oxidation. It has  a combination of both, in taste and aroma. Oolong tea has more polyphenols than black or green tea varieties. Oolong may also help improve metabolism to help with weight loss and promote healthier skin.  A cup contains almost half the caffeine of a cup of coffee. I like Oolong tea with my dinner, and in the cold months it’s often my breakfast tea as well.

Pu-erh tea. This is the tea that Dr.Oz featured on one of his programs.  This tea is made from the same plant that is used for making green, oolong, and black teas. Though the same plant is used, the different teas are made by using different processes. Green tea is not fermented, oolong tea is partially fermented, black tea is fully fermented, and finally, Pu-erh tea is post-fermented. This just means that Pu-erh tea’s processing includes both a fermentation process and then a prolonged storage, or “aging,”  done under high humidity. And according to WebMD, Pu-erh tea might help for lowering cholesterol because  it contains small amounts of a chemical called lovastatin. Other teas don’t have it. Lovastatin is a prescription medicine used for lowering cholesterol. And animal research seems to suggest that pu-erh tea might even lower certain blood fats, called triglycerides as well as total and “bad” low-density lipoprotein (LDL) cholesterol, it may even raise “good” high density lipoprotein (HDL) cholesterol. Dr Oz introduced it as dieter’s tea. Supposedly it helps shrink fat cells and by drinking it in the morning you get a metabolism boost. I like the earthy, deep flavor and I am drinking my “Oz tea” in the morning. No idea if it is actually helping me with my weight, but it’s yummy, so…why not?

So. Those are my daily teas. And if you were paying attention you’ll know that I drink upwards of 5 cups of tea on most days….not including my favorite herbal teas, which I ‘ll tell you about in another post.

Fast and Fluffy Summer Lime Pie

Hi guys. I just HAD to share this with you all. I got to taste this fab pie the other night and when I asked for the recipe I was amazed at how easy it was. I haven’t made it yet myself but plan on it this week. I’m gonna tweak it with truvia sweetened yogurt, my homemade stevia “gello”, low fat whipped cream and a flax and wheat germ infused crust… so we’ll see how that works. In the meantime here is the “original” recipe. Enjoy!!

2 cartons of key lime yogurt-6oz each
1 carton frozen whipped topping- thawed out OR 1 carton cool whip
1 graham cracker crust
Lemon, orange or lime zest *optional*

In a mixing bowl combine lime gelatin with yogurt, fold in whipped topping or cool whip. Spread in graham cracker crust and refrigerate for at least 30 minutes before serving. Add zest to top of pie id desired.

EASY and it was soooo good!

Bacon Pull-Aparts Quick and Easy Snack for New Year's Get Together

I found this recipe in an old magazine dated 1998. I tried this and it turns out fab! Really easy, but it will be a huge hit. Serve with either jarred pizza or spaghetti sauce for dipping, and make two batches cuz it will go FAST!!!!

12-14 strips of bacon, cooked and chopped into smallish bite size bits

1 loaf of frozen bread dough (thawed)

2 tbsp. EVOO

1/2 cup shredded mozzarella

1/2 cup shredded cheddar

1/2 package of ranch salad dressing mix

1/4 cup chopped fresh chives

Roll out dough to about 1/2 inch thick. Brush with EVOO. Cut into roughly 1 inch pieces. Put in large bowl. Add bacon, cheese, dressing  mix and toss till coated . Arranges pieces in a 9×5 oval on a greased baking sheet, layering is fine. Cover and let rise in a warm spot for about 30 minutes or until double in size. Bake at 350 for 15 minutes, then cover with foil and bake for 5-10 minutes longer or until a nice golden brown.  That’s it! Easy, yummy!  Serve palin or with dipping sauce. Enjoy!

* That’s not my pic- I didn’t get a pic of mine so I pulled a pic off the web- mine were better looking BTW! LOL

Ritz- Mock Apple Pie

My mom has been telling me for YEARS about a fake/mock apple pie made out of Ritz crackers. Yeah. Sure. Sounds GREAT! Not. But, last weekend as part of the dessert smorgasbord for Thanksgiving… there it was. She found the recipe and made us one. Evidently it’s somewhat famous… I now know why. It honestly tastes fabulous.  I  just kept saying “Really? crackers? WHO thought this up? It’s delicious. Really, mom? Just crackers?” So, in case it’s new to you… here is the recipe. I seriously suggest you try it.

2 cups sugar

2 tsp. cream of tartar

1 3/4 cup water

Zest and 2 tbs. juice of lemon

1 package ready to use pie crust

36 Ritz crackers, broken up

2 tbs. butter, in small pieces

1/2 tsp. cinnamon

pinch nutmeg

Mix sugar and cream of tartar in medium saucepan, gradually stir in water. Bring to a boil on high heat. Then, simmer on low for 5 minutes.

Sir in lemon juice and zest. Heat oven to 425. Roll out one crust on lightly floured surface to 11 inch circle. Place in 9 inch pie plate. Place all cracker crumbs and pieces in cruse, pour sugar syrup over crumbs. Top with butter pieces, cinnamon and nutmeg.

Roll out remaining crust to 10 inch circle. Place over pie. Seal and flute edge. Cut several slits in top crust. Bake 30 to 35 minutes until golden brown.

Gorton's SeaFood and their Any Way you Want It Sweepstakes

Today I’m here to talk about Gorton’s Seafood.

I love making dishes with fish. And it’s fun to say… try it.

Fish dishes are also favorites when my kids have friends over; they’re delicious and fast and easy to prepare, while being a step up from normal sleepover foods like corn dogs or hamburgers. I admit I usually have Tartar sauce from Zip’s in the fridge to go with them!

First on our list to review today, we have the Tilapia Signature Grilled Fillets. These are light, flaky, and delicious; they taste fresh and clean, and these fillets will go great with a wide variety of dishes. I love to serve these with caramelized brussel sprouts (for me, steamed broccoli with cheese for the fam, because none of them will touch brussel sprouts unless I cover them with some sort of sauce)   and whole wheat pearl couscous, dinner is on the table in a flash and we are getting some omega’s to boot. The Tilapia also goes really well with an alfredo sauce over rigatoni pasta. Again, fast, tasty and healthy.

Next is the Crunchy Golden Popcorn Shrimp. These are made with the highest quality of shrimp, and are ready from the oven in under fifteen minutes. And they taste fantastic! Gorton’s Premium Shrimp items are also available marinated or flame-grilled, and covered in either crunchy breading or crispy batter. Fun for munching when playing card games…I never win but the snacks are good.

And last, we have the Beer Batter Tenders. These come out of the oven in under twenty minutes, light and crispy and golden-brown, and they’re like more casual fillets. Great finger foods, and great for dipping. Also, there’s none of that gritty filler that you often get with store-brand frozen fish dishes. These are the go-to I mentioned earlier for when the kids have company.

Another great thing about Gorton’s… they have  sweepstakes going on right now, where you could win $5,000! Whoo-hoo! Check it out here: Any Way You Want It Sweeps   Share with them and you could win a $5,000 VISA® gift card to spend Any Way You Want It…just in time for the holidays! Two runner-up winners will win $500! Additionally, Gorton’s will randomly select 800 lucky winners to win a custom Gorton’s plate that will help you and your family remember to eat seafood twice a week. Good Luck!

*I rec’d free product coupons from Gorton’s, however I already loved their products and the opinions in this post are 100% mine*

Teaposy A Review and Giveaway – You're gonna love this!

CLOSED!!

When you think of having a cup of tea, what comes to mind? If you are like me, you have half a dozen favorites and another dozen or so second favorites and you choose according to your mood.  I have several  blends for lazy evenings or when I need to relax, I have some robust teas for mornings and to have with dinner. I like tea hot and iced and I keep green tea ice cubes in the freezer at all times, for a quick way to perk up ice water, or to toss into a smoothie.  But all of that is about how tea tastes, not about a visual ritual. I now think of tea in a completely different way, thanks to Teaposy. I was sent the most gorgeous little tea for one teapot and cup, called the Charme Posy Set.

Isn’t this the prettiest tea set ever?  The cup fits on the bottom of the pot. And you can’t really see it, but there is a little filter on the spout that you can remove if needed, but it will enable you to brew loose teas as well as the tea posy balls. These  little “balls” of tea bloom when you add boiling water!! It takes the whole tea experience to another place, and I’m never going back! I thought the description on the site was perfect so here it is:  How to enjoy Teaposy
Place a Blooming Posy Tea in boiling water, take a moment to relax, reflect, and breathe in the natural aroma of jasmine. The Silver Needle White Tea leaves will slowly open, revealing vibrant flowers hand-sewn into gorgeous designs at the center of the teaposy. This blooming tea is not only beautiful, it also brews the finest tea on the market today, dancing on the palate with floral notes and a light, sweet aftertaste. Each teaposy is also individually vacuum-sealed, ensuring you enjoy it at the peak of freshness.

I will vouch for the taste of these teas- like no other tea I’ve tasted.  It’s like what you think a fairy would drink, gorgeous to look at ( the “blooming pods are hand sewn!), and wonderful to sip! If it is possible for something to taste pretty…teaposy teas do!  I froze some to add to my sparkling water for a really elegant summer spritzer. Perfect for hot summer days. Of course our weather is not doing the normal summer thing right now, but still.

I turned my evening tea time into something really special and relaxing when I took a bath and  used a Lavender Posy Tea Bath– with Lavender and Lily, while I sipped my Harmony Blooming tea- honestly it was sensational. I must have sighed with bliss every few minutes. And the skin smoothing ingredients meant I skipped lotion after my bath, the fragrance on my skin was so nice I changed my sheets a few days early just to make sure the lavender smell wasn’t competing with the linen spray I use on my bed. Sigh.

Those are pics of the actual teas- unfurled. Honestly lovely. I am thinking great gift idea for Christmas.  I can imagine my mom warming her feet on the heating mat I want to get her, sipping Tea Posy teas, all relaxed and cozy. My husband even thought it was neat. There some wonderful tea sets on the site- for one, for two, for a few. By now I’m sure you understand my enthusiasm, and I have the happy honor of telling you that you can win a Charme Posy set!
