Thanks for the PEX-A expansion tool demo. I am sold.
Thanks for the review. I wonder if you have thoughts on the Shark bite fittings.
In sweden we use pex as we have a standard "safe water". Pipe in pipe system and no, i mean no joint in Wall. Read more on uponor sweden and you will find it more logical. We do the same with electrical. Easy to change if you have a problem because you dont have to open the Wall.
The title was PEX vs. Copper but this video was really all about PEX. Should have discussed the pros and cons of cooper as well and the complexities of sweating, routing, etc. It was interesting, though.
finally an excellent video produced by Mr. Risinger! (dorkiness nowhere to be found)
Great comment section of thoughts and opinions (and links to follow). And except one not-that-offensive comment, the majority were constructive too. If only all the internet were like this.
Are you using it because it's cheaper and makes more profit?
Very interesting…
Want to send photo of pex plumbing failure want to know why.
One issue we come across with PexA is when you have a bucket full of fittings and they rattle around in your truck or some idiot cuts the bag open with a knife quickly your barbs get little nicks. you can feel them with your fingernail. These little imperfections cause water leaks and its very frustrating.
What about shark bite fittings?
What about effect of sunlight on pex?
hey matt on the pex a can you use the standard copper compression rings?
and what about the brass fittings like in nibco and sioux chief brands?
or should we look at the plastic fittings?
As a union pipefitter, I've installed Pex in universities, office buildings, town houses etc. These materials are cheaper and less labor intensive than copper or black pipe! I only wish we had it it the U.S. earlier in my career as it would've saved me a lot of headaches as a foreman! Copper is great but you gotta love Pex!
I own a house that was built in 1925, had to replace all the cast iron pipe with copper and foam insulation. I've had no busted pipes due to cold weather in unconditioned areas. Where I live, sometimes it only gets cold to 32 degrees F / 0 degrees C.
6:42 cool system …
I have a well with slightly acidic water that tends to leach copper out of copper pipes leaving green stains and bad taste especially after sitting for hours like first thing in the morning. And original copper under my slab almost all started leaking in less than a year. I can't believe they got eat up but I'm guessing maybe moving around during expansion/contraction from cold/hot water.
Would PEX work on a boat? The marine environment is harsh. A boat moves quite a bit.
Excellent video! No more copper for me.
Seems like that drill thing is not going to fit in any tight spots. Can you switch back and forth
Pex is easier to install but why. Copper is proven for 100 years. You think plastic will last and be safe in 30 years? 60 years?
no polypropylene (PPR) piping used in USA?
I was surprised you didn’t hit the message of copper as a huge heat sink. My new PEX filled house delivers hot water in less than 25 seconds at each fixture. In my old house filled with copper, I’d normally waste one to two minutes of water before getting a full hot stream. Huge benefit for PEX on this subject.
I did my all bathroom with pex ,very easy ,very cheap and works good.
If you can't bend copper pipe are you even trying
"Discovered" PEX via RV repair. Great stuff and now use whenever I can in home and on the road. There are adapters out there for any type pipe you can encounter to get to PEX for great repairs in older homes.
in nyc is not allow in construction because of fire poison to fire man
Your presentation was very informative and positive. Thank you for the information.
I was looking at the pex in my basement there is 2 manifolds 1 coming off the hot water tank and 1 cold water line and I was like ok if i have to take a hose off how the heck do you connect this again??
a special tool you say? I see said the blind man.
Plasticisers in all poly… materials working as estrogen and are blaimed for drop in spermatozoid number.
Copper is naturally antibiotic.
Mechanical properties are not the only criteria to be considered.
This is amazing! I'm getting ready to retire and I am for sure going to install PEX! Thanks for pointing me in the right direction.
