Bella Viva Orchards…Fantastic!

I ALWAYS have dried fruit in my cupboard. I love it.  Any kind, it doesn’t matter, or at least it didn’t used to matter. I got to try the Dual Indulgence Fruit Trays from Bella Viva Orchards and I’m never going back to bags of dried fruit from my local grocery store. There is no way to explain the difference.  First off, the trays contained  California Apricots, Pears, Pluots, Figs, Prunes, Apples, Chocolate Covered Apricots, Chocolate Covered Peaches, Chocolate Covered Bing Cherries, Chocolate Covered Raisins, Chocolate Covered Almonds,  and Chocolate Covered Walnuts.

The taste and texture is nothing like what I’ve had before. Pluots are my new favorite dried fruit of all time– chewy, and  fresh tasting with just a touch of tart that had me going back for more…and more and more! Each of the varieties have the same super fresh taste- and they are whole halves or even whole fruits, not just odds and end pieces that have been dried and put in a sack or a bag. In fact the fruit they are sending you is from their own farm in  Central Valley.  The fruit you are getting is the same as what they produce and sell to loyal customers at their stands in northern California’s celebrated farmer’s markets and in select restaurants!  I think it’s so sweet that Bella Viva is  named for their daughters, Vivian and Belle, and Bella Viva means beautiful long life in Italian.

There was also a tray of chocolate covered goodies. The chocolate covered BING Cherries are FANTASTIC!!!  The candied chocolate coating is the perfect sweetness and when you get to the cherry inside… all I can say is if nothing else you HAVE to try these! The choc covered walnuts were my daughter’s favorite.

Bella Viva would like to give one of you the chance to win the Dual Indulgence Fruit Trays!

Tropicana Trop50 – True Resolutions

New Year’s Resolution are legendary for being made, then broken within a few days. Tropicana Trop50 True Resolutions is a different take on our yearly resolve. Basically they ask: What is the truth behind your resolutions? Do you want to lose weight for your health? Or because you want to fit into sample sizes or to be the skinny BFF? A fun twist. To make it more fun to look at your motives,  Trop50 True Resolutions  want you to share your secret motivation behind your resolutions and you’ll earn a coupon for $1 off  Trop50 for yourself and 50¢ off coupons for up to 50 of your friends. You can even submit incognito with a fierce disguise. Bonus: Whether you submit a resolution or not, you can also enter a sweepstakes to win a $1000 gift card. Yay!

The Trop50 is a line of juice beverages in the chilled aisle that has 50% less sugar and NO artificial sweeteners.   They use the zero calorie, all NATURAL Stevia based sweetener called PureVia. I LOVE that! I have told you before that I seem to have an allergy to artificial sweeteners. Yes, even sucralose, which cause sores around my mouth, nostrils and even my eyes. Also horrid headaches. So there are a lot of products that say “low sugar” or “sugar free” that I can’t tolerate. So to find a fantastic beverage with a variety of flavors, that uses a natural source for sweetness is awesome. Farmstand Apple, Pineapple-Mango and Red Orange are just a few of the flavors you can try. I absolutely love these drinks, and so do my kids and hub. I feel good about my family drinking them.

Head over to enter their sweeps and don’t forget to get a coupon to use when you try Trop50!

Gorton's SeaFood and their Any Way you Want It Sweepstakes

Today I’m here to talk about Gorton’s Seafood.

I love making dishes with fish. And it’s fun to say… try it.

Fish dishes are also favorites when my kids have friends over; they’re delicious and fast and easy to prepare, while being a step up from normal sleepover foods like corn dogs or hamburgers. I admit I usually have Tartar sauce from Zip’s in the fridge to go with them!

First on our list to review today, we have the Tilapia Signature Grilled Fillets. These are light, flaky, and delicious; they taste fresh and clean, and these fillets will go great with a wide variety of dishes. I love to serve these with caramelized brussel sprouts (for me, steamed broccoli with cheese for the fam, because none of them will touch brussel sprouts unless I cover them with some sort of sauce)   and whole wheat pearl couscous, dinner is on the table in a flash and we are getting some omega’s to boot. The Tilapia also goes really well with an alfredo sauce over rigatoni pasta. Again, fast, tasty and healthy.

Next is the Crunchy Golden Popcorn Shrimp. These are made with the highest quality of shrimp, and are ready from the oven in under fifteen minutes. And they taste fantastic! Gorton’s Premium Shrimp items are also available marinated or flame-grilled, and covered in either crunchy breading or crispy batter. Fun for munching when playing card games…I never win but the snacks are good.

And last, we have the Beer Batter Tenders. These come out of the oven in under twenty minutes, light and crispy and golden-brown, and they’re like more casual fillets. Great finger foods, and great for dipping. Also, there’s none of that gritty filler that you often get with store-brand frozen fish dishes. These are the go-to I mentioned earlier for when the kids have company.

Another great thing about Gorton’s… they have  sweepstakes going on right now, where you could win $5,000! Whoo-hoo! Check it out here: Any Way You Want It Sweeps   Share with them and you could win a $5,000 VISA® gift card to spend Any Way You Want It…just in time for the holidays! Two runner-up winners will win $500! Additionally, Gorton’s will randomly select 800 lucky winners to win a custom Gorton’s plate that will help you and your family remember to eat seafood twice a week. Good Luck!

*I rec’d free product coupons from Gorton’s, however I already loved their products and the opinions in this post are 100% mine*

World Table at Walmart- Spiced Sweet Potato Chips

I wrote about the World Table brand at Walmart a while back. I had tried cookies and I loved them. Hub brought home some Spiced Sweet Potato chips and I am just as impressed. These chips are fantastic. I was surprised to taste a little garlic, and a more savory flavor as I was expecting a nutmeg, ginger-y sweet potato chip. I’m glad I was wrong. I make my own sweet potato chips often, with a dash of chili powder and I love them, but for store bought, I don’t think they could be better than the Walmart World Table brand.  Nice crunch, seasoned just right. Good quality, good price. If you haven’t tried the brand , give it a shot.

Activia Selects – A Review

I am a hard-core yogurt lover.  Plain, flavored, frozen, as a topping, in a smoothie, really anything you can do with yogurt I’ll love it. Not just because it’s good for you either. I consider it a treat. Like just about everyone else, I’ve been on a Greek yogurt kick for ages. When I got my coupons to sample Activia Selects I decided to try the French version in Strawberry. Oh my goodness! I’ve become so used to the super thick and almost dense texture and mouth feel of the Greek varieties that the French style knocked me over with the incredible creamy, almost silky texture of it. The strawberry chunks ( yes, chunks, no little microscopic “bits” of fruit here, actual chunks of fruit!) tasted sweet and fresh.
Overall, a perfect, creamy taste. My son and daughter were more enthusiastic than me, even. The lightness compared to the more heavy duty Greek, was a huge hit. Hub is still anti-yogurt except as a sour cream substitute, oh well. At least my kids are happy to choose this yogurt instead of high calorie snacks. As a mom, this pleases me because Activia Selects have some great nutrition and digestive benefits.

Taken from their site:

Activia helps regulate your digestive system* when consumed for two weeks as as part of a balanced diet and healthy lifestyle*

But how does it do it, and why is its exclusive culture, Bifidus Regularis, so important?

After you eat, food passes through the digestive tract and is gradually broken down into smaller parts, like sugars, fats and proteins. These nutrients are absorbed by your body and are part of what helps you lead an active and healthy lifestyle.

This is where Activia, with Bifidus Regularis (Bifidobacterium lactis DN-173 010), can help! Clinical studies show that Bifidus Regularis survives passage through the digestive system and arrives in the gut, which is where Activia provides its benefit Activia with Bifidus Regularis helps regulate the digestive system.

Hubby could certainly use the digestive support but he is as stubborn a mule.  I bet I could use Activia French in strawberry in a dessert and he’d love it!

If you would like to try it for FREE- you can go here for a coupon!

I wrote this review while participating in a campaign by Mom Central Consulting on behalf of Dannon Activia Selects Yogurt Series and received a coupon to facilitate my review and a promotional item to thank me for taking the time to participate. However, my opinions are entirely my own and I have not been paid to publish positive comments.

Tiger's Milk

This is a quickie. You all know I am trying to shed a few pounds. Except for Mother’s Day, when instead of falling off the wagon, I jumped, I have been doing pretty good. One small issue is that, while I have been good about keeping healthier snack choices handy, in the evening, I want to eat a candy bar. I know, but I do. I tried the Tiger’s Milk Protein Rich and their Peanut Butter and Honey flavors, and found my solution. Thank goodness, b/c it was getting kinda dicey for me, b/c when I say I wanted a candy bar… I really mean I WANTED a candy bar! Tiger’s Milk has been around forever, and has been called the original nutrition bar. I’ve seen them at the store a hundred times, just never bought one. After tasting the samples though, I will be. They are creamy and have just the mouth feel I wanted.  The Protein Rich one comes in at just 140 calories and 5 grams of fat, is low in sodium and has 6 grams of protein. There are some vitamins in there for good measure. It isn’t hard to work that into my eating plan with out blowing it. Just thought you’d like to know.

Giveaway!! My weight loss goal and making it happen with Orgain CLOSED

* Updated to include giveaway! Details at the end of post*

I have been talking about doing something regarding my weight for ages. But I haven’t really been commited, and I’ve come up with about 783 excuses as to why I should put off getting started, including things like:

#50    It won’t hurt to have 8 more pieces of chocolate truffle- chocolate is good for you.
#65    So-and-so would be offended if I didn’t have another serving of her famous cheesecake.
#71    Hub thinks I’m cute anyway.
#187  I’m awfully busy, I’ll wait till I have time to excercise.
#214  It is the middle of winter, and I wear jammy pants a lot- and they fit me fine.
#306  I embrace my curves!
#499  I can’t go on a diet now; we are going to visit so-and-so, and I can’t eat healthily without offending. They don’t stock anything but junk, and I’ll seem picky.

Recently I had Hubby bring in the the storage tubs so I could make the winter-to-summer clothes switch- and I’m pretty sure that’s why our weather turned murky and cold, btw. Anyway, much to my dismay (I actually shrieked and fussed around and then sank into a deep, deep depression for an hour or so before I went and had a snack – I am SO pitiful) I found out that several of my spring capris WOULDN’T GO PAST MY HIPS!! MY HIPS! THEY WOULDN’T. GO. PAST.MY.HIPS. I tried, I tugged, I shimmied, and nothing. Bleh. My cellulite has smoothed out since I’ve been using the Nutraluxe Massager, but it didn’t make me slender. My fat just looked nicer.

Well, I’m not satisfied with nicer looking fat anymore. I need to lose some weight. I weigh…*big exhale* I hate admitting this… 133lbs. I like to say I am 5’2, but I’m not. I am a hair over 5’1. And my bones are tiny. 133 lbs does not look healthy on me at all. Not healthy, and certainly not attractive. I actually used to be super fit. I was  a runner for years and did WT and pilates, and my body fat % was low. I felt great, I looked good, and I never had to use a shoehorn to get my pants on. After I broke my ribs I had to take a little hiatus from my normal routine. I ended up re-injuring myself. Then I got a horrible respiratory infection. Then we were in the middle of a move. Then, by the time I was whole and healthy, I had to work outside of the home again for a while, and the time came when I didn’t even bother to tell myself I’d get back in the swing of things. My metabolism was incredible, and for a long time I was able to live off my years as a fit freak, because I didn’t gain much. My muscles lost definition, but my shape was still nice. By the time the weight started to show, I had my excuses ready and denial was my friend.

So here I am today. I am ready to get serious about my weight and my health. I have decided to use a meal replacement to kick-start my efforts. But I want to eat in a clean way, and I’ve read the ingredients on the shakes available at my local stores. I can’t prounounce some of the chemicals in there, and some of them use sucralose, which I can’t tolerate. I get a nasty rash around my mouth, nose, and eyelids, as well as awful headaches, when I have even a little. So, I read labels on everything, b/c for some reason there isn’t a big notice on foods telling you it has sucralose in it.

After looking around, I discovered Orgain. This is a fantastic product!

It’s full of good-for-you ingredients:

We tasted the Creamy Chocolate fudge – LOVE the taste. My son is hooked, and naturally I’m gonna keep him stocked. If he wants to consume something that is so good for him- yay! He doesn’t give a rip about the nutrition facts, but I’m thinking about all that healthy stuff he’s chugging.

So my plan is to have one Sweet Vanilla Bean Shake for breakfast, and I’ll have one Creamy Chocolate Fudge Shake for lunch. For snacks, I’m stocking up on walnuts, almonds, fresh fruit, and edmame in the shells. (I love them! They take time to eat and are filling.) For dinners, I am going to eat chicken with garlic over couscous; a light version of chinese chicken salad full of shelled edmame, shredded cabbage, asparagus, celery, and peas; honey mustard ham salads; and turkey sandwiches with avacado and tomato. I’ll do better at first if I just rotate those meals. I was even thinking of enhancing my weight loss diet by using Sensa on all of my snacks and dinners. Do you have a Sensa review to share that might inspire me? I can make almost everything ahead of time, so prep is minimal when it’s time to eat. I’m going shopping tomorrow and will start my new way of eating on Monday. Stay tuned because sometime midweek I will post a giveaway for Orgain.
I am aiming to start off with a 20 minute per day walk or dancing- Cooler Than Me by Mike Posner being on my song list :) And a few songs by Big Time Rush cuz I LOVE THEM!!!!

FYI- My favorite thing about Orgain-

Oogave- A Review and Giveaway Closed

CLOSED!!

I love the feeling of discovering a new product. When it’s something that tastes great- my family is happy about it, too. Right now I have a happy hub and a couple of happy teens. What did I find? Soda I will actually let them drink!  I have tried several “natural” sodas on the market, and while I am a stevia lover, most brands I’ve tasted  that use this alternative to artificial sweeteners, have that ‘licorice’ aftertaste, and neither myself or my family liked those. Another brand, doesn’t have the aftertaste, but unfortunately, it doesn’t have any taste. One other one on the shelves has so many ingredients in it that I can’t pronounce-well, I just passed. I thought if you were marketing to folks who want “natural” you would try to keep away from words that have “artificial” in front. Maybe that’s just me?

So it was nice to twist the bottle caps off of Oogave Soda on flavors like Agave Mandarin Key Lime and Agave Cola and love the fizz, and the flavor! I am trying to eat healthier and cleaner, so for me the fact that these are an all natural, organic soda sweetened with agave and less than 100 calories per serving is a huge plus! That they don’t contain high fructose corn syrup, caffeine, GMO products or preservatives is also pretty awesome.

As usual, my son doesn’t care if something is “good” or “bad” for him- he just wants to have his food and drinks taste good. The Watermelon Cream was his favorite, until the next day when we sampled  their Root Beer-I swear it is as full and rich as when we used to get big frosty mugs of the stuff at the drive-in when I was a kid. Excellent! My daughter and I both liked the Grapefruit and Hub is stuck on good old Cola. I’m really glad we found a pop that I feel good about my family drinking. Oogave has a neat section on their site called Farm to Table and it’s interesting to see how the whole process works.  You can also check out the way Oogave got started, use a store locator and check out more flavors.
