Coupster.co – Bling Your iPhone For Less

For me, half the fun of getting a new tech gadget is personalizing it and making it my own. Usually something pink and girly.

For iPhone users, though, there’s Coupster.co, a great site that sells discounted iPhone cases, bumpers, and batteries. Many of their products sell for at least half off the original price. They have a nice selection, including waterproof iPhone cases, NFL cases, and custom cases.

Most low price phone cases are often flimsy plastic, or cheap rubber that doesn’t offer a secure fit for the phone. My sister has ranted about that, at length!  On Coupster.co, you can find cases for comparable prices but  superior materials and quality. Even the cuter more “girly” cases offer the same protection without the loss of a fun accessory! The options and the prices make the cases an easy gift idea. Always fun!

Browsing through Coupster.co looking through their iPhone cases  featured collection, I liked the Pink Lifeproof iPhone 4 and 4S Case, which sells on the site for $45.99. Super cute. I like that it’s waterproof, too.

They have a great selection even including wooden iPhone cases- for less than fifteen dollars!

I’ve scouted around on other sites, and that’s a pretty good price.

I also like the Pink iPhone Bumper, which is a good option for those who want their iPhones to be protected, but are looking for a low-price item.

Coupster.co is currently offering the following discount codes:

Coupon code: 5off55

$5.00 off orders equal or above $55.00

Samsung Galaxy Tab 2 – A Review

When I was growing up, if you were getting a tablet, you were getting paper. Computers weren’t in practically every household, and phones had cords.  There were only VHS videos, and if you missed a TV show, tough. The difference between then and now is mind-boggling. We just got our new Samsung Galaxy Tab 2 from Staples.com. You can do more with this sleek little tablet than you could with my first computer – actually, my first two or three computers, lol. Commodore 64 ring a bell?

These days, more people than not are tech-savvy, so some of the things I’ll address here might be pretty basic to you. But let’s assume that we have some novice gadget-users reading this (um, kinda like me) and take it from there. Powered by Android™ 4.0, Ice Cream Sandwich, this tablet has a seven-inch display, making it plenty big enough for reading, viewing, or whatever else you might want to do on it—and with a flick of your fingers, you can zoom in or out if you want to adjust the size of what you’re displaying. The images and media are bright and sharp. Ours is the 8 GB model, but it also comes in 4 GB and 16 GB, with additional memory available through the microSD card slot.  Its picture-taking capabilities are better than my old camera. Not brilliant, but very adequate. It has a front-facing camera for video chat and a rear-facing camera for taking regular pictures and video.

Here is a picture of a picture of Lucy taken with the Samsung Galaxy Tab 2.

You can also use voice commands using the built-in microphone, and there is a video tutorial to show you how to set it up. Also, the speaker volume is pretty good for such a compact device. Of course, you can always plug in some headphones or speakers if you want.

A lot of touchscreens are imprecise and either too sensitive or not sensitive enough—you can spend five minutes just trying to click that one little button onscreen. Not so with this one; it has just the right amount of sensitivity.

The personalization options are really nice. You can change the size and type of the font, you can choose how long it takes for the screensaver to kick on, you can choose whether or not you want the screen to flip automatically when you turn it on its side or upside down—you can adjust pretty much anything, any way you like it.

So hub is browsing the Samsung Apps. And there are over 450,000 to choose from! It looks like we have Sonic CD Lite, about 20 ebooks, an expense planner, a mini piano and who knows what else so far. This is like shopping via remote control for hubs. “Hey, this looks cool.” Tap. “Got it.”  “Hey, this looks cool.” Tap. “Got it.”  And on and on it goes.

And ironically enough, with the  Smart Remote app you can turn your Galaxy Tab 2 into a universal remote control. So you can control all of your stuff – your TV, cable box,  Blu-ray and DVR, whatever – from your SGT2. Hub also informs me that the Smart Remote will learn about what you like and you’ll get personalized recommendations. Find a show, click  “watch”  and never see your husband again  it switches automatically.

Another husband stealer (are we seeing a theme here??) is AllShare, with  IR blaster built right in, which is Samsung’s content-sharing service. With it you can wirelessly stream multimedia content from your tablet to your TV (or another DLNA-enabled device)  Don’t worry if you have to leave the room, because Smart View allows you to wireless stream what’s on your Samsung Smart TV to your Galaxy Tab 2.

Misc observations, 4 days in.

With the Samsung Galaxy Tab 2, you can connect up just about any standard Bluetooth keyboard, which is great b/c I don’t love on-screen typing.  Wi-fi seems to be working great everywhere in our house with no dead spots- even laying in bed with it propped against my pillow – yeah, I could be watching the tv or using my laptop, but the small profile doesn’t light up the room and disturb hub like those do. I’m not sure what will happen when I take it somewhere- we’ll have to wait and see. I’ve read conflicting reports about battery life. We are pretty okay- about 8+ hours of  pretty heavy use takes us down to about 8% to 10%  battery life and then it drops fast. But it charges pretty quickly; we just plug it in at night. Not too bad, IMHO. The memory space is good for most things, but it can fill up pretty fast. An SD card for storage is pretty much mandatory if you’re planning on taking lots of pics or video.

After playing games, reading books, watching movies, browsing the web, trying out apps, and taking pictures of the dogs’ noses and dead spiders, the whole family loves this tablet. So much bang for your buck. There is great value for the money in this – at only $249.00, I don’t see how you can go wrong. Do I have any cons? Just one. Sometimes, depending on how you hold the GST2, you can inadvertently muffle the sound, but I’m not sure where else/how else they could have done the speakers so that’s really just nit-pickiness on my part. But yeah, it bugs me. Oh, and I have noticed that running more than 2 or 3 things (apps) at a time can cause a skip/lag. Irritating, but not a deal breaker. So, I guess that’s 2 things. On a scale from 1 to 10, I give this a 9 – based on the way we are using it, it’s great. We  have come a long way since floppy discs, people.

cradle of Rome 2

You may have noticed that I’ve been a little absent from the blog for the past couple of days…that is because we got a new 3DS game that I’ve become highly addicted to. It is the newest game of the Jewel Master Series, Cradle of Rome 2. I actually never play my daughters 3DS and this game was intended for her but I had to see what this game was all about so I played it, too…and really enjoyed it. It reminds me of a game I used to play on the computer when I was a kid, super fun, easy to learn and challenging at the same time.

able planet travelers choice headphone review

The man of the house is the one who has primarily been using these headphones, so I will let him take it from here…

I have been using the Able Planet Travelers Choice Headphones with my iPod and my Korg M-50 Music Workstation and I must say these headphones are amazing for the price. I had been using a pair of Sennhieser HD 202’s which are fairly good quality for the $30 to $40 dollar range but when I put on the Able Planet Phones I could immediately tell a difference. The clarity and bass were a definite improvement over the Sennhieser Headphones and I hadn’t even turned on the switch to activate the Linx Audio Technology. Linx Audio gives more depth and clear vocals even at lower volumes the only downfall to this is you have to use a AAA battery to power it. The headphones work without Linx but to get the full effect it is definitely recommended. The sound gets a little muddy when the battery gets low but the battery life is surprisingly long considering the sound it puts out. I have got at least 15 to 20 hours out of one battery. I have been using these around the house for the most part but they are actually made for travel. These headphones are compact and very lightweight but the construction is far superior than that of the Sennheiser. They fold up for easy storage and even come with a travel bag that includes an airplane adapter and 1/4 in headphone adapter. They also have in line volume control for easy volume adjustment. The ear cups are comfortable and work great at blocking out outside noise. These would work great in a crowded area such as an airplane or bus. All in all I am enjoying my Able Planet Headphones and would definitely recommend them to someone looking for quality sound given by some of the more high end headphones (such as Dre Beats or Bose) for a more affordable price. These get 4 out of 5 stars from me. And thanks to Able Planet for letting us review one of their great products.

I received one or more of the products mentioned above for free using Tomoson.com. Regardless, I only recommend products or services I use personally and believe will be good for my readers.

Epson 835 All-in-One Printer Review

I didn’t tell my husband I was going to be reviewing  an Epson Artisan 835 All-in-One Printer.  It was an early Father’s Day surprise. The day it showed up, I asked my teen son to hook it up for me so it would be ready when his dad got home from work- I am NOT very technically minded. After a quick look at the instructions, my son says “Mom, look at this-  this is  like easy enough for a first grader-I bet you could do this.” I checked them out- and he was right! I hooked the printer up by my lonesome in less than 15 minutes! And, may I add that 7 of those minutes were just letting this little wonder machine prime after installing the ink.  I love the sleek design, and the touch screen is so neat! We decided to play around with the printer and test out the features- WOW! The quality of the photos are incredible! Son had some pics from camp on his camera and they turned out awesome! Right about this time, our little dogs start going nuts so even though we can’t hear the car yet, we know that dad is going to be here any minute.

Loving my Whoomp!

I generally buy pretty cheap heaphones or earbuds. Wouldn’t mind a better quality pair, but I have other things to spend my money on. Luxury items like the mortgage, gas and groceries! I do end up paying in anther way though, because the “X” brand tends to be uncomfortable, and the sound can be tinny. I fall asleep with my mp3 player, listening to  soothing ocean waves, mood music or a Bible study. The earbuds tend to press that tender spot right outside my ear canal, but I need the background sound or my brain just refuses to quiet down and I might be awake for 3 hours making to do lists into the year 2013. So I was very glad to hear that ComplyFoam was sending me a pair of their Whoomp! Earbud Enhancers. I opened  the package as soon as it came.  Basically, the Whoomp! Earbud Enhancers are a clever little add-on that turn your  flat earbuds into comfy stay put canalphones!

Here is a quick product description directly from their site:

The unique shape seals the entrance to the ear and funnels pure sound directly into the ear. New one-size-fits-all open-cell foam design is ultra soft, enhances bass and stays in place while you are active. The perfect earphone accessory for those who listen to music while on the go! Whoomp!™ are compatible with all standard round Apple iPod®/iPhone™ earbuds (not in-ear design)and most other round earbuds 16-17mm in diameter.

I found that these little gadgets actually improved the hollow sound from my cheapo earbuds! It was actually a little richer and I liked hearing one of my favorite songs last night without the little zzzing sound for a change.
They are incredibly comfortable, and to test their “stay put” claim, I did a very energetic Dance to Mike Posner’s Cooler Than Me. *Blush* Anyway, they don’t fall out. My last test was to listen to my music while my daughter played Aqua on the stereo… Yep, they really help to cancel out background noise. If I sound awfully picky for someone who has $4.00 headphones from the super duper cheap store, I’m not.
I just wanted to see if what they said about these little enhancers was true. It is. I think these are an inexpensive way to upgrade to a better sound quality.

ComplyFoam.com will have a new website launching in Mid-April and will also  be giving away some expensive earphones, tips and other stuff, so stay tuned!
To get in on the free stuff you can follow them on twitter and on Facebook.
